The Cremorne Residence is a compact three-storey dwelling connected to an existing office within a former warehouse fabric. Conceived as a contrast rather than a continuation, the residence embraces the industrial language of the original structure, retaining exposed structural elements to preserve its raw, warehouse character.
Given the small footprint, the architecture relies on sectional thinking. A series of voids are strategically introduced to create visual connections between levels and back to the existing structure, expanding the perceived scale of the interior while maintaining privacy and control. These voids also assist in drawing light deep into the plan, allowing carefully modulated natural light to animate the textured surfaces throughout the day.
The materiality is expressive. Concrete, steel, and timber are deployed for their tactile qualities, reinforcing a sense of robustness while softening the domestic experience. Through controlled light, layered textures, and precise spatial relationships, the Cremorne Residence achieves a quiet intensity—an intimate living environment embedded within an industrial legacy.
