Fairfield Residence is shaped by its terrain—set on a sloping site within a flood plain, with the river forming both a boundary and a constant presence. Rather than resist these conditions, the house is planned to incorporate them, using them to organise space, views, light, and movement through the building.

A series of split levels allows the building to step with the land, maintaining long views through the interior toward the river and surrounding bushland. This sectional approach creates visual continuity across the house, while drawing natural light deep into the plan and avoiding any sense of hierarchy or dead space.

Texture plays a central role in defining the architecture. Joinery elements are treated as sculptural forms—articulated and purposeful—both anchoring the interiors and subtly separating functions without enclosure. Glass is used cleverly to separate the solid forms of the building. Materials are expressed with clarity and restraint, allowing the house to feel grounded, tactile, and quietly expressive, in constant dialogue with its landscape.
