Designed for a family of four, this project sits within the tight confines of a narrow heritage building, requiring a careful balance between openness, domestic comfort, and respect for the existing fabric. The brief called for an open-plan living environment that could feel generous and light-filled despite the site’s limited width.
New cubic forms are subtly tilted to introduce a sequence of skylights, drawing natural light deep into the plan and creating a dynamic ceiling landscape. These interventions allow light to shift throughout the day, expanding the perceived volume of the interior while maintaining privacy within the dense urban context.
Texture and colour are used strategically to define zones and soften the open plan. A calibrated balance of materials creates warmth and visual depth, ensuring the spaces feel comfortable, layered, and lived-in rather than expansive for its own sake. The result is a home that feels both spacious and intimate, shaped by light, proportion, and material restraint.
